Vanilla Catering & Events

Mary Rose Opening

Summer is finally here and things are hoting up at Vanilla we have had an incredibly busy few weeks and we are well and truly into the season now.

This month we have spent a lot of time at the Historic Dockyards in Portsmouth. We are now one of the preferred caterers here and catering on HMS Victory has been great fun. The chefs have to prepare their creations  on the lower decks between the cannons, the biggest challenge is the height restrictions, the poor chefs are constantly banning their heads on lights, low ceilings; you name it they hit it !

We are also one of the caterers at the New Mary Rose museum which is just next door, we were privileged to be at the opening of this, have a look at our facebook pages for pictures of this.

The exciting, new £27 million Mary Rose Museum opened its doors to visitors on Friday 31st May 2013. Located just metres from Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory and the ships of the modern Royal Navy, the new museum provides one of the most significant insights into Tudor life in the world and creates the new centrepiece to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard.

The Tudor ship that captured the world's imagination when she was raised from the seabed in 1982 is the only sixteenth century warship on display anywhere in the world and the brand new Museum built around her reunites her with many of her 19,000 artefacts and crew.

The new boat-shaped Museum showcases the very best of 21st century architecture and construction, where for the first time visitors will see the ship with its preserving sprays switched off and the final phase of the hull's conservation through windows into a 'hotbox' as up to 100 tons of water is removed from the ship's timbers.

The most comprehensive collection of Tudor artefacts in the world is showcased from personal belongings such as wooden bowls, leather shoes, musical instruments and nit combs complete with 500 year old lice to ship's objects such as longbows and two tonne guns. For the first time, using forensic science, crew members will be brought to life giving visitors the chance to come face-face with the carpenter, cook, archer and even the ship's dog, 'Hatch'!

The Mary Rose is available to hire for a canapé party, a three course sit down  or a simple buffet, if you want more information on this please contact us or the Museum itself.

Other new venues include Wickham Vineyard, imagine having your perfect day surrounded by wonderful vines. The vineyard can even produce a special wine for your big day, complete with your own label.

Back at HQ the battle of the fatties continues …... Kit and Ben are dieting again and the weigh in continues every Wednesday, it's difficult dieting when you are surrounded by such fab food that Lee and his team produce but they are giving a good try.

Little Joes wedding draws nearer soon he will be a happily married man, We now have three Joe’s in the kitchen, Little Joe, Big Joe and mini Jo it's all getting very confusing.
