Vanilla Catering & Events

A Bumper Year draws to a close

Well, what an amazing year Vanilla have had. Hard to believe it is nearly over.

The year has passed in a flash so many memories, so many weddings and events it is difficult to know where to begin.

The year has seen us win awards, cater for celebrities, fly to the French Alps to pass on our expert knowledge, get a recipe published in a cook book and  become one of the caterers at the most prestigious museum to open in the UK this decade. We continue to promote the use of the amazing array of Hampshire produce available in this wonderful county ours , our expert chef Joe Baker excelling himself during Hampshire Fare week with his fantastic fish course. We still have found time to bake cakes for help the heroes , ginger bread feet for Toe in the Water and for every wedding or banquet you have booked with us for every guest we have donated 20p to Wedding Wishing Well Foundation which organises and funds Weddings for terminally ill people.

We were runners up at the South Coast Business Awards in the category of customer service company of the year. Unfortunately we were narrowly piped at the post but we were the only hospitality company to make the shortlist so we were pretty happy about this and we did all have a great night out……

At the Wedding Industry awards 2014 we are the winners in the category of wedding caterer of the year, London and South East. We are feeling pretty pleased about this as to go head to head with the big boys in like London we really feel we have achieved something.  The awards are as a result of our lovely couples voting for us, so it’s not just a question of ticking a few boxes it’s a real honour to win due to  positive feedback from you guys. We go through to the National final which will be held in early January in London, so watch this space.

Vanillas wonderful head chef Lee finally got to see one of his menus in print in" The Hampshire Cookbook" - A collection of recipes eagerly gathered and compiled by a food-loving team of volunteers from The Prince's Trust's Million Makers Challenge. Delia Smith, Rick Stein, Paul Hollywood, Marcus Wareing, Antonio Carluccio, Tommy Miah, Eric Lanlard and our own Lee Butler have all contributed to this innovative fundraising project - designed to entice the tastebuds

We were extremely honoured to be asked to one one of the caterers at the New Mary Rose museum at Portsmouth Historic Docks,

The exciting, new £27 million Mary Rose Museum opened its doors to visitors on Friday 31st May 2013. Located just metres from Nelson's flagship, HMS Victory and the ships of the modern Royal Navy, the new museum provides one of the most significant insights into Tudor life in the world and creates the new centrepiece to Portsmouth Historic Dockyard. The Tudor ship that captured the world's imagination when she was raised from the seabed in 1982 is the only sixteenth century warship on display anywhere in the world and the brand new Museum built around her reunites her with many of her 19,000 artefacts and crew.

You can hire the Admirals Gallery for your party or wedding, it seats 120 guests, we catered for the first wedding there last Saturday and I can tell you it makes a wonderful venue for a special occasion.

On the sporting front we have catered for Cowes week, once again catering for Alex Thompson on Hugo boss, (congratulations Alex in your Vendee globe achievement this year ) We have also teamed up with Ski Amis (www.skiamis.com). Skiamis have been providing catered chalet holidays in the French Alps since 1989 and have always prided themselves on the quality of the food and service provided in their chalets. This year however the Company decided to take a step forwards for the coming season and design the menu in partnership with Vanilla as two of Vanilla’s directors, Kit Johnson and Sally Pickles worked several seasons for Ski Amis many years ago running premium service chalets. The Vanilla team headed by head chef Lee devised some fantastic new menus for the chalets. It was a tough job flying out there training the staff and looking at all the new runs that have appeared since we were last there…..

Don’t forget If you book your wedding or banquet with us you are helping our Charity for 2012/3. For every guest you invite to your wedding or party Vanilla will donate 20p to Wedding Wishing Well Foundation which organises and funds Weddings for terminally ill people.
