Plantain Crips, Key Lime Pie and a Hog Roast !

It was a busy May Bank holiday weekend for us at Vanilla. The weather may not have been great but the food shone at the three weddings we were catering for.

Congratulations to Nick and Shona, Lauren and Tim and Gem and Chris who all got married this weekend.

Saturday saw Lauren and Tim feasting upon Honey Roast Duck Breast with a Plantain Crisp followed by a Stuffed Chicken Breast and a  delicious Tiramasu with a Pecan Biscotti. The reception was held at Rookesby Park School which has magnificent views over the rolling Hampshire countryside.

Nick and Shona had a delicious hog roast, the hog was supplied by Westlands Farm and the wedding took place in Netley.

Gem and Chris treated their guests to a four course extravaganza at the Tithe Barn in Ditcham. They commenced with stuffed Portobello mushroom, followed by a palate cleanser of our great champagne sorbet. The main course was Gems owns suggestion of a chicken breast stuffed with a butternut puree and the dessert, a very zesty Key Lime pie, to remind them of their favourite holiday in Florida.

As an aside did you know ?

In 1965, Florida State Representative Bernie Papy, Jr. introduced legislation calling for a $100 fine to be levied against anyone advertising key lime pie that is not made with key limes. The bill did not pass. As of July 1, 2006, key lime pie is the Florida state pie.

Don’t forget that for every wedding we cater for we donate 20p per cover to our nominated charity Frank Water.

We look forward this week to the weddings of Sam and Chris and Bill and Anna. I will  report in next week with all the news.
