Cocktails, Hog Roasts and Xmas approaching !

Another fun packed week here for the Vanilla team. Yes you guessed it, once again we were at the Tithe Barn for Jenny and Tom to celebrate their special day.

The sun was out, the shades were on and Cosmopolitan cocktails were served on the lawn along with a host of delicious canapes including freshly perepared sushi.

It did not take long for the cocktails to get the guests in the party mood the starters of either chicken sate or trio of melon with a caramelised fig dressing soon disappeared. The main course was a hog roast served with seasonal vegetables

As an aside did you know ?

A pig roast, (hog roast known to us in the UK) is an event or gathering which involves the barbecuing of a whole hog (the castrated male pig or boar, bred for consumption at about 12 months old). Pig roasts in the mainland American Deep South are often referred to as a Pig pickin'

Pig roast is a part of Puerto Rico's national dish and is usually served with arroz con gandules. In Puerto Rico, pig roasts occur year round, but happen in greater frequency as part of New Year's Eve celebrations and especially Christmas

In various Chinese communities (especially in Southern China), a pig roast known as siu yuk is purchased for the sake of special family affairs, business openings, or as a ritualistic spiritual offering.

In the UK the tradition of pig roasting, which is more commonly known in the UK as a Hog Roast, is fundamental to many occasions, particularly parties and celebrations. It is usually an outdoor event, and a staple meal on many show events. The tradition is either to roast on a spit, turning the pig under a flame, or in a large oven in a roasting pan, roasting pigs over 200 lbs in weight is common in the UK. The pig is roasted usually in cider and bay leaves, with salt rubbed in to the scored skin to make the 'crackling'.

I have to admit the crackling is the best bit of the pig,and no matter how many hog roasts we do we can never resist this bit of the pig.

Our pigs are all free range and we use the Lovely James from the Whole Hog of Botley who get their happy piggies from Westlands Farm in Wickham

Tom and Jenny had a very bespoke dessert they named “Dave” which we served with a delicious edible chocolate spoon.

The alcohol flowed well into the evening, with the Vanilla bar and its fruit Vodka shots proving popular. Antipasti platters with fresh home made bread cooked on site (the smell of fresh bread cooking cannot be beaten !) were served later in the evening to keep the guests energy levels topped up.

Christine and Andrew. Celebrated their wedding with a reception at Winslowe house , West End.

This weekend coming we are very busy again. Once again we are at the Tithe with three weddings in a row, the Vanilla vans (who all have names by the way !) will soon be able to navigate to the barn by themsleves, Nina and Gary, Nick and Laura and Emma and Gavin have all chosen this wonderful venue.
