2011 - The things to come

It’s 2011, Happy New Year to all of our customers old and New.

As an aside did you know ?

The United Nations General Assembly declared 2011 as the International Year of Forests to raise awareness on sustainable management, conservation and sustainable development of all types of forests.

Forests cover 31% of the total land area, the livelihood of 1.6 billion people depend on forests and forest are home to 300 million people around the  world.

Forests are also home to the amazing Orangutan. I was lucky enough to see orangutans in the wild in the Tangung Puting National Park Indonesia.  We stopped here briefly on my major sailing trip a few years ago . Located in the peninsula on the south coast of Borneo  in the Indonesian province of Central Kalimantan , the park consists of 741,100 acres. The park is rich in wildlife including Orangutans, Proboscis monkeys which are found only in Borneo , long tail macaque, over 200 species of birds - especially hornbills and kingfishers. Occasionally agile gibbon, grey gibbon, red leaf monkey, Malayan sun bear and crocodile are seen, which is not much fun when you are in a rubber dinghy rowing ashore!

In the Chinese zodiac 2011 is also the year of the rabbit. Apparently People born in the Year of the Rabbit are articulate, talented, and ambitious. Previous rabbit years include 1963, 1975, 1987, 1999. Unfortunately I was not born in any of these years !

In January there are a few foody events coming up , we have Farmhouse breakfast week, Burns night and Hampshire potato week. I will be expanding on these during my weekly blogs.

It’s a reasonably quiet month for us at Vanilla, this month we are trialing new menus, which is all great fun. Soon we will upload them to our website with a whole new bunch of photographs so watch this space. We are also meeting with all our bride and grooms for the year organising tasting sessions ( a complimentary tasting session is available to all those of you who book their wedding or corporate  event with us)

We will be at the Tithe  Barn open  day on 29th January, this  is a truly amazing venue in which to hold a wedding or a corporate party so why not contact the barn to see if you can get  an invite. We will be there with lost of yummy samples and we can advise you on all aspects of your big day  ( 01730 825 562)

Don’t forget that for every wedding or three course corporate event we cater for this year we donate 20p per head to our nominated charity Frank Water ( Every Pound raised for Frank Water Projects gives one person access to clean water for life so the more people you invite the more peopel you help

Have a good week and speak soon
