Burns night Supper

January is nearly over. Here at Vanilla we have been busy trialing and sampling our new menus, its  a tough job eating delicious food all day but we are managing quite nicely and soon we will upload the menus and get our lovely photographer Al to come down and photograph our new creations so you can all have  a look at them.

The week it's Burns night so I hope you will all be partaking in a wee portion of Haggis on 25th January.

 As an aside did you know ?

A Burns supper is a celebration of the life and poetry of the poet Robert Burns, author of many Scots poems. The suppers are normally held on or near the poet's birthday, 25 January, sometimes also known as Robert Burns Day or Burns Night the main dish of the supper is Haggis. Haggis  is a dish containing sheep's 'pluck' (heart, liver and lungs), minced with onion, oatmeal, suet, spices, and salt, mixed with stock, and traditionally simmered in the animal's stomach for approximately three hours. Most modern commercial haggis is prepared in a casing rather than an actual stomach.

Everyone stands as the main course is brought in. This is always a haggis on a large dish. It is usually brought in by the chef generally while a piper plays bagpipes and leads the way to the host's table, where the haggis is laid down.

Burns night is a very special night for me as it's the day my lovely husband proposed to me …..19 years ago, so ladies the haggis obviously did something for him, maybe you should try it too !

This week we will be at the hospitality show at the NEC armed with a shopping list to see all the latest gadgets the show has to offer and hopefully purchasing a few to use in our ever expanding professional kitchens

Next Saturday (29th January) we will be at the Tithe  barn open  day (www.tithe-barn-co.uk 01730 825 562) this is a truly amazing venue in which to hold a wedding so why not come along to the barn to have a nosey, meet the team ,sample some of our produce and chat about your big day ! .
