Vanilla Catering & Events

Shortlisted for Hampshire Small Business of the Year 2011

We have had a very busy bank holiday weekend here at Vanilla. It started with a bang on Friday for the wedding of Nicola and Alec at our old favorite the Tithe Barn. Saturday saw us there again  for Charlotte and Jamie to tie the knot and we also catered for Charlotte and Will at a private marquee in Liphook. Two Charlottes  in one day !

Charlotte and Will had an amazing marquee in Charlottes parents garden. On arrival the guests were treated to canapés on the lawn with a pianist playing in the background. We had a few moments the day before when one of the ponies and a chicken escaped but thankfully they were rounded up before the guests arrived in all their finery.

The Vanilla team excels when catering in marquees, never mind that we had to scale a fence to get to our water supply, its all part of the fun. The meal was a triumph as we all as the midnight munchies. After the munchies a silent disco commenced until 2.00 am however it was not really silent as all the guests were singing along at the top of their voices. Already we have had a thanks from Charlotte as below, which is always a bonus when someone takes the time to thank us before they jet off on their honeymoon.

 Hi Sally,

I just wanted to say a massive thank you to yourself and Kit and all the team that you brought with you. The food was out of this world and everyone raved about it all evening and onto the next day. How you produced such amazing food in a tent out the back of the marquee is beyond me. The service was impeccable and you even managed to get a beautiful cheesecake out on display.

It really was the most wonderful day and your team only added to what I’m going to say was the best wedding ever!

Thank you again,

This week we take over the Tithe again two days in a row with the wedding of Adele and Paul on Friday and Dan and Amelia on Saturday. We are also at Winslowe on Saturday for Lisa and Mark, so I will report back next week with news about these happy events.

I tweeted last week about how happy we are to be shortlisted for the Hamphire Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the year award. The results will be announced mid July at a dinner at the De Vere. We feel honoured to be shortlisted, there are only three other companies in the running and we are the only caterer. My only worry is I am going to have to smarten myself and shock horror, may even have to wear a dress. As an outdoor person I am most happy in my cycling or sailing gear and the thought of dressing up puts more fear into me than crossing oceans or catering for 1000 in a tent !!

As I mentioned last week, July is Hampshire Food Festival month. After the success of last year’s classes we are again running our Delicious Desserts Master Classes. These classes will be held on Tuesday 19 or 26th July. Our professional team will show you how to create your own wonderful desserts. It’s an active class held here at Swanwick so if you want to get your hands dirty and learn something in the process drop me a line. Places are limited and must be booked.

Our new brochure is at the printers and will be available on line this week. Thanks to Al our super professional (and handsome …. its lovely having him around ! ) photographer from London for doing the photos for this again  (

Don’t forget For every guest at you wedding or event we will donate 20p to the EllenMacarthur Trust ( so we hope that a happy occasion such as a wedding or party will bring a little happiness for young people aged between 8-24 by allowing them to sail to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illness.

Have a great week , please feel free to call the office if you need any advice on your wedding, party or corporate event . Our team of professionals are always on hand to give advice

Have a great week

Sally and the team
