Catering for Record Breakers !

Hi All

It’s a rainy Sunday day and I am recovering from a very busy couple of days so what better way to relax than let you have all the latest Vanilla News.

Last weekend we had the great privilege of catering for Dan and Amelia at the Tithe barn in Ditcham.

It was a glorious sunny day with the temperatures reaching the high 20s which was wonderful as Dan and Amelia are a very special couple who deserved to have a wonderful day.

Last year Amelia and Dan walked 500 miles in 58 days from Resolute Bay in Canada in aid of the charity Help for Heroes. Amelia is the first British woman to make the journey unsupported and the youngest to ever accomplish the feat. She completed the journey despite dislocating her shoulder twice and resetting it herself. The couple, dragged two sledges carrying food, fuel and equipment weighing about 660lb and without the aid of dogs in temperatures of around -40C.

…….how amazing is that and she also looked stunning on her wedding day, what a lucky chap Dan is.

Fortunately we did not have to drag our food on sledges to the barn. Instead we used the vanilla fleet and the food they dined on for their wedding breakfast is below:

Scallops with Chorizo on a Lemon Grass Skewer with Celeriac Puree & Micro Cress

Medallions of Venison with Bacon, Blackcurrant Glazed Beetroots & Sweet Potato Galette

White Chocolate & Passion Fruit Roulade with Fresh Raspberries & Wild Strawberry Sauce /Dark Chocolate Mousse with Orange Creme Brulee.

All went swimmingly well. Lee (our head chef) and his team  did an amazing job, and we have already had a thankyou from Amelia’s mum as below:

Dear Sally,

I've had a text from Amelia and Dan in Botswana to say 'big thanks' and they'll be in touch when they get back.

I know I said it lots on the day(s) but everything you did was fabulous. So many people commented that it was the best wedding food they had ever tasted, and the groom's father, who is really very discerning, said it was exquisite. The people who had special dietary requirements were equally pleased with what they were served.

The Sunday hog-roast was great too. Thank you all so much for doing such a good job, and doing it so unobtrusively.  I will recommend you unreservedly to anybody who asks.

All the best,

Alison Russell

Dan and Amelia had over 150 guests at their wedding and for every guest at a Vanilla wedding or event we donate 20p to the EllenMacarthur Trust  ( so Dan and Amelias wedding raised £31.20.  Last month we gave £220 to the trust and we are already well ahead of that total for this month, so the more popular you are the more we donate !

This week we were at Winchester Guildhall catering for The Winchester Business Excellence awards. Another feast was produced this time for 297 people so this raised £59.60 for Ellens trust. Congratulations to all the winners , I hope you enjoyed our winning menu and service. !

Talking of the Guildhall we will be catering for 4 nights of festive fun and food here in December. If you have a party of 10 or more, or if you want to book the venue exclusively please drop me a line for dates and menus. Not only will you have a scrumptious meal but there will be an array of entertainment on offer.

This week we gearing up with 5 weddings to prepare for. Friday and Saturday we are at the Tithe to see Nigel and Sophie and Louise and Steve celebrate their days. On Saturday we are at Farbridge for Ricky and the Lovely Ellen. Bradgate Manor is another venue for Claire and Alex and the wonderfull Hill place ( can’t wait to see Maverick ) play host to for Nicola and Llloyd
