Vanilla Catering & Events

Cowes Week Beckons !

It’s July

Hampshire Fares glorious Food month. Our delicious dessert classes are fully booked so I am afraid if you have not already booked you will have to wait until next year !

There are all sorts of wonderful events across Hampshire this month. I went along to Setley Ridge Vineyard and had a wonderful evening of wine tasting and eating local produce We had an amazing array of food prepared for us by Mange Tout catering. We dined amongst the vines, it was wonderful.

The wedding season continues the last ten days we have catered for Leah and Brent, Steve and Sophie, Carly and Rob, Phillida and Chris, Fillippa and David, Sarah and George and Shakira and Tom. The venues have included the Tithe Barn, Farbridge Barn,  Winchester Guildhall and the wonderful Hamptworth Estate (www.hamptworthestate.co.uk) The Estate is a stunning location for a wedding ceremony and reception. Hidden away on the northern edge of the New Forest National Park, You can choose to have your catering in the  house, in a marquee in the wonderful grounds or in their very own Thythe Barn

Three days to go until we know if we have won the Hampshire Chamber of Commerce Small Business of the year. Apparently John Sargent is presenting the awards so let’s hope Vanilla will be dancing around the Stage with him.

Whatever the result we have a busy weekend with 6 weddings so no time to party. This weekend we see Denise and Simon, Elaine and Trevor, Kay and Adam, Helen and Sion, Amy and Ralph and Helen and James all committing to each other and making the wise decision to use Vanilla catering.

At the end of the month we will be at Winchester Guildhall for the Food and Produce show. Admission to the show is free and it also coincides with the farmers market so it’s a great day to spend hanging around this fine city. 31st is a great foodie day as Laverstoke park Farm in Overton  is also opening its doors for the British BBQ championships !

I am hoping to have a few days off soon to  have  a bit of a break before the month of August when not only is it weddings galore but its Cowes week when catering for the yachtie  community really comes into  to its own, the party atmosphere in Cowes is great that week

As an Aside did you know

Cowes week is one of the longest-running regular regattas in the world. With 40 daily races, approximately 1000 boats, and 8,500 competitors ranging from Olympic and world class professionals to weekend sailors,( people like me!)  it is the largest sailing regatta of its kind in the world. Having started in 1826, the Event is held on the Solent in the Cowes, Isle of Wight. As well as the sailing activities, the week includes a large number of onshore events including live music and cocktail parties. From private or commercial house parties, and nominally private yacht clubs and boats, through marquees erected in the marinas serving food and drink, through to crowds overflowing from busy public houses and restaurants around the narrow high street, the water and the town become a hive of activity into the early hours of each morning. Around 100,000 visitors are attracted to Cowes by the festival atmosphere of the event each year in addition to all the competitors. The festival originates from thePrince Regent's  interest in yachting which continued after he became george IV  in 1820. The first race started at 09:30 on Thursday the 10th August in 1826 with the prize of a "Gold Cup of the value of £100" and was held under the flag of the Royal Yacht Club, which later became the Royal Yacht Squadron. The Vanilla team may not win prizes for our sailing but hopefully our Yacht catering will be a winner, call me for further details.

Don’t forget For every guest at you wedding or event we will donate 20p to the EllenMacarthur Trust ( www.ellenmacarthurtrust.org) so we hope that a happy occasion such as a wedding or party will bring a little happiness for young people aged between 8-24 by allowing them to sail to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illness.

Have a great week , please feel free to call the office if you need any advice on your wedding, party or corporate event,  our team of professionals are always on hand to give advice. For up to the minute Vanilla news you can follow us on facebook or twitter !
