Vanilla Catering & Events

Isle of Wight Biltong

Just over a month to go until Xmas and we have our first Xmas party next week.

Things have been busy in the Vanilla kitchens as our Xmas creations are tested and more importantly tasted.

However, even though Xmas is round the corner we are still catering for weddings. This weekend we see Sven and Beccy tie the knot at Hill Place in Swanmore. They are having a wonderful having a 5 course meal with Venison as the main course and I will publish the menu next week. Don’t want to spoil  the surprise for the guests by doing it beforehand.

Other news is we have been shortlisted for the Wedding Industry Awards 2012 in the category of Independent caterer. The awards are great in that to get through the first round (which we have) it is down to a voting process whereby our lovely clients vote for us. The next stage then goes to a panel of judges and we are now waiting to see if we go through to the final. Many thanks to all our wonderful couples who have voted for us, watch this space as we now go head to head with the big London boys !

The last couple of weeks we have been hosting canapé parties for a rather well known brand of car that has just launched a new model. The Vanilla fleet has been out and about in Hampshire and Dorset providing retro canapes and drinks for this exciting launch. We even went overseas to the Isle of Wight.

I love the Isle of Wight, it really is a foodies paradise. There is so much wonderful produce on the Island, from the Isle of Wight Chilli Farm in Godshill (check out our face book page for a wonderful photo of some of their chilies) to the wonderful Isle of Wight cheeses (Gally bagger is my favourite !) However my latest find is Isle of Wight Biltong (www.isleofwightbiltong.co.uk)

 Did you know?

This is a new company on the Isle of Wight, producing hand made beef biltong.

They use locally sourced beef from Kemphill Farm, in Havenstreet. Biltong is cured beef that has been marinated in various spices and then air dried. This process evaporates the water in the beef leaving behind only the nutrients and intensifying the flavours.

They use lean beef and organic sea salt to cure it to create a unique texture.

Biltong does not melt or crush so it is a snack to go with you when you are out hiking, cycling or sailing. They make five flavours: Classic Coriander, Curry, Garlic, Kibbled Pepper, Smoked.

Give it a try it’s a great Xmas pressie too, it can bought at a new wonderful deli in the main town Newport called Primrose Deli.

We still have a few slots left at Winchester Guildhall if any of you out there have not yet booked your party. Please contact us direct and we can give you more details about the festive package we are offering.

Don’t forget For every guest at your wedding party or event we will donate 20p to the EllenMacarthur Trust ( www.ellenmacarthurtrust.org) so we hope that a happy occasion such as a wedding or party will bring a little happiness for young people aged between 8-24 by allowing them to sail to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illness.
