Tithe Barn Open Day

This Saturday ( 28th January) we are at the Tithe Barn Open day from 9.00am. This is without doubt my favourite venue. It’s an amazing barn surrounded by rolling countryside and  we feel very privileged to be one of the preferred suppliers here. Last year we catered for over 30 weddings at the barn so we really know how things work here.

If you decide to book this amazing venue one of the vanilla directors or senior managers will be allocated as your wedding planner who will advise you on all aspects of the day from timings to table plan. We work closely with all the other suppliers at the barn and we have our own mobile bar which was especially made to fit the barn so it blends in with the décor and you don’t have to mess around using a different company if you require both. We had our first wedding of the year there last week. when the lovely Jessica married Kavian. They had a bespoke English Caribbean fusion menu as below:


Oxtail and Shiraz Soup or Brie Asparagus and Red Onion Tartlet

Hickory Smoked Chicken on Sweetcorn and pea risotto or Spiced honey glazed rump of Lamb on sweet potato date and plantain Galette or Celeriac & Shitake Torte with Char-grilled Asparagus on Yellow Pepper Sauce       


Coconut and lime Panna cotta with mango and passion fruit or Chocolate & Praline Pave Cappuccino Sauce with Crystallized Hazelnuts

It’s a busy week in the world outside Vanilla. Tomorrow sees the start of week long celebration’s with Chinese New Year, followed by Burns Night on Wednesday and Thursday it’s Australia Day. Happy Australia Day to Dan and Emma who are over there enjoying the sun, however did you know  Australia Day is the No.1 holiday for people aged under 25 years requiring emergency medical attention for drunkenness, with more than double the usual number of ambulance call-outs and a 50 per cent increase in emergency department presentations. !

Here at Vanilla there  are no such shenanigans. Kit, and  Ben, are still going head to head in the weight loss challenge. A new refrigerated van has been added to the fleet, still nameless so any ideas please send them across. Our new dishwasher, George, is already feeling the strain of long days in our professional kitchens. Lee, our wonderful head chef, is busy with menu planning and sorting out his brigade before the season really kicks in. Peaches is going for the world record in speed cleaning and I am excited as its only two weeks to National Yorkshire pudding day when I will reveal the secrets of Betty’s Yorkshire puds ……..maybe !

And don’t forget For every guest at you wedding party or event we will donate 20p to the EllenMacarthur Trust ( so we hope that a happy occasion such as a wedding or party will bring a little happiness for young people aged between 8-24 by allowing them to sail to help them regain their confidence, on their way to recovery from cancer, leukaemia and other serious illness.
